The UT San Antonio School of Music’s Lyric Theatre is taking a different approach this time around with its spring production. Instead of eccentric dance numbers, the ensemble is exploring the lives of four ordinary people in the city that never sleeps.

The group is taking on the musical, “Ordinary Days” by Adam Gwon. The show takes the audience into the lives of the four young New Yorkers as they navigate love, ambition and the connections that shape their ordinary lives. Through a score of vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences ring startlingly true.

“Ordinary Days” will run from March 5–8 at The Wonder Theatre, 4522 Fredericksburg Rd., A-90.

“This show isn’t a stereotypical Broadway blowout. It’s unique. It lives in the ordinary moments that make up a life,” said show director Bill McCrary. “It’s a different show than we’ve done before, but it’s so relatable to events that everyone has experienced. And just like in life, there are unexpected twists.”

The actors reflect those unexpected intersections, including brother and sister duo Louis and Alexandra Sanchez, who were both cast in the show, allowing them to share the experience.

“It’s always been incredibly special to star in productions with my brother. Performing is already such a personal and vulnerable thing but getting to share that stage with someone I love so dearly adds another layer of joy to it,” said Alexandra, a senior music education major, who is playing Claire in the play. “One of the things I value most is that after a show, he can give me honest feedback. I know it always comes from a place of love and mutual respect, which makes it easier to grow and improve as a performer. Being able to do what we both love while supporting each other makes the entire experience even more rewarding.”

“Ordinary Days” is an original musical for anyone who’s ever struggled to appreciate the simple things in a complex place. With equal doses of humor and poignancy, it celebrates how millions of individual stories combine in unexpected ways.

“It is a story about healing, rediscovery, and about the courage it takes to open ourselves to one another again,” McCrary said. “Through humor, honesty, and a beautiful contemporary score, this fully sung musical reminds us that even in uncertain times, hope shows up in the most ordinary places.”
