MARCH 3, 2020 — UTSA Athletics will host several Conference USA Mental Health Awareness “Green Out” events during the month of March as part of the league’s ongoing initiative.

All UTSA student-athletes will wear green shoelaces during the “Green Out” events, while coaches and staff will wear green wristbands.

Launched during the 2019–2020 academic year, the “Green Out” initiative is a collaboration between Conference USA and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at each member institution. Together they created “Green Out” games in support of mental health awareness. C-USA encourages all to stand up to the stigma and continue the conversation, including using the hashtag #ContinueTheConversation on social media.

Millions of people in the United States are affected by mental illness each year. One in five U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year. One in 25 U.S. adults experiences serious mental illness each year. One in six U.S. youth ages 6–17 experiences a mental health disorder each year. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people ages 10–34.
